I became aware of this epic ride the week before retiring from the Royal Australian Air Force after 33 years of service. As a veteran of the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars, I have witnessed the best and worst of humanity yet that pales into insignificance when compared to the ‘hell on earth’ my great Uncles endured in World War I at the Battles of Bullecourt and Fromelles where they fell.
So I’m going to honour their sacrifice and the tireless work of Legacy who have supported my relatives, friends and the families of veterans since 1923 by giving the 2018 Tour de Legacy a crack in November. This ride commemorates the final year of the Centenary of the ANZAC and the World War I Armistice on November 11, 1918. The ride takes in 900 kms of English, French and Belgium Pavé over 8 days in late-Autumn throughout the battlefields of the Western Front.
The ride starts in London and finishes in Amiens, culminating in attendance at the Centenary Memorial Service at the Australian National Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux on Remembrance Day. No doubt a few tears will be shed.
Legacy and I greatly value your support and any contribution. It will make a real difference. Allez Allez !!!
